The music box can be handheld or placed on the floor, the latter being the only safe way to discard the box without triggering a cursed hunt while it's playing. If the music box is within 5 metres of the ghost, it will trigger a ghost event where the ghost manifests and begins to walk towards the box. Once activated, the music box will make the ghost sing along while remaining invisible, broadcasting its current location. Doing so will end the setup phase early if it is ongoing. The music box can then be activated by using the primary use (default: right click on mouse) key. When picked up, the music box will open (this does not mean that it has been activated). Having fun again Here are a few songs I’ve made using the Music Box Fun website: Music boxes have a way of taking normal songs and making them more nostalgic, innocent, or haunting. There’s also a physical constraint where you can’t play repeating 8th or 16th notes for a given pitch.īut despite these constraints (or maybe because of them?), you can make lovely, enchanting music. On simple boxes, you only have 15 notes to work with (two octaves on a C major scale). It’s almost like the physical (or audio?) manifestation of pixel art. Making songs for a music box is an exercise in constraints. They’re simple and inexpensive, but you can do so many creative things with them. I don’t know why, but there’s something appealing to me about these little machines. Here’s a video I made, where I play the Pallet Town theme from Pokemon: It comes with these paper strips and a punch tool.Įvery hole you punch represents a note, and you can play the whole song by cranking the paper through the music box. There’s a type of music box that you can write your own songs for. It’s a website for creating and sharing music box songs. Today I get to tell you about a project I’ve been building called Music Box Fun.
